In the world of medical aesthetics, dermal filler is often used as a catch-all term for everything from subtle lip hydration to structural jawline sculpting. Because the term is so broad, it’s common to assume the product used in your cheeks is identical to what goes in your lips.

The truth is they aren’t the same, and at Juvea Aesthetics, we believe that understanding this difference is the first step toward a result you truly love.

While lip filler is technically a type of dermal filler, the two behave very differently once injected. Understanding the distinction between lip filler vs. dermal filler empowers you to ask the right questions during your consultation, and ensures your treatment plan is tailored to your unique anatomy.

If you’re already further along in your research and want to get straight into the specifics of lip filler at Juvea, our complete guide to lip filler in Calgary covers everything from product selection to recovery to pricing in one place.

What Is Dermal Filler, and Why Does Formulation Matter So Much?

Dermal filler is the umbrella term for injectable treatments used to restore volume, structure, contour or even just enhance skin quality and stimulate collagen and elastin production. At our Calgary clinic, we primarily use fillers made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a substance your body produces naturally to maintain hydration.

However, not all HA fillers are created equal. What makes each product different is its rheology: the science of how a product physically behaves under the skin.

We like to think of our fillers like a curated artist’s palette. At Juvea Aesthetics, we only use Health Canada-authorized products that we’ve hand-selected for their quality and how they move in the skin:

  • Soft & Moveable: Our team uses these for areas that move a lot (like your lips) so you can smile, laugh, and talk without your filler looking obvious or feeling firm. They integrate seamlessly for a natural feel. Experts refer to these as dynamic hyaluronic acids that compliment dynamic areas of the face.
  • Supportive & Sculpting: These have a bit more structure. We use these deeper down to mimic the support of bone or to refresh the contours of the cheeks and jawline, giving you a refined look without looking puffy.

Choosing the perfect tool for your specific skin and goals is where our clinical expertise really shines. Results may vary.

Why the Same Filler Can’t Do Every Job

When an injector places a filler that’s too dense or too firm is placed in the lips, it simply can’t move naturally with your tissue. You might find that your lips feel stiff, they might not move comfortably when you talk or smile, and the result can look heavy rather than soft and full. Meaning, it will not integrate in the tissue. In many cases, this isn’t an issue of technique, but rather a product mismatch. Even the highest level of skill can’t fully correct for a filler that wasn’t designed for such a dynamic environment.

The reverse is true for structural areas. When a soft, pliable formula meant for the lips is used in the cheeks or jawline, it lacks the “oomph” to actually lift or hold its shape. Your result often looks puffy rather than sculpted, because the product adds volume without providing the necessary structural support. It’s a classic case of using the wrong tool for the job.

This is why the lip filler vs. dermal filler difference is so much more than just a name. It has a direct, visible impact on how you look and feel. At Juvea Aesthetics, the conversation about which product matches your tissue happens before anything else. Getting that decision right is the foundation for a refreshed, natural-looking result. We believe that a skilled and talented injector not only has an eye for natural beauty, but also has a high level of understanding with regards to anatomy, the aging process and the rheology of the filler they choose. Filler types are only the tools that are used at Juvea to achieve the results we desire.

The Real Difference Between Lip Filler and Facial Dermal Filler

Your lips are dynamic tissue and have many unique anatomical compartments, and they’re moving constantly. Every time you talk, eat, smile, or take a sip of something, the presence of a filler that’s too dense or too firm in that environment won’t just look unnatural, it will also feel unnatural. Products designed specifically for lips are soft, flexible, and pliable, so they move effortlessly with your tissue.

The structural areas of the face, like the cheeks, chin, jawline, temples, need a completely different product. Our goal in these areas is to lift and hold tissue in place, which requires a denser, more supportive formula. A soft lip filler placed in your cheeks won’t provide the lift you’re looking for in those areas, and a structural cheek filler placed in the lips will create a hard, stiff look that looks unnatural.

This is why we’re genuinely careful about product selection at Juvea in Calgary, and why we’d encourage you to ask any injector you see about exactly which product they’re planning to use, and why.

What Can Dermal Filler Treat Beyond the Lips?

Before and after facial contouring in Calgary showing dermal filler results in the cheeks, jawline, and chin for a more defined profile.

One of the things we hear most often from clients after a facial contouring treatment is people noticed something looked different about them, but they couldn’t figure out what had changed. That’s exactly what a well-done dermal filler treatment in Calgary should feel like.

When we place filler in the right areas with the right product, it restores the underlying support that was quietly disappearing, and the face just looks more like it used to, or more like the best version of yourself. Here’s what facial filler at Juvea can address:

  • Cheeks: our injectors restore mid-face volume and creating a subtle lift that refreshes the whole face above and below it. This doesn’t always mean you will have “bigger cheeks” but rather some mid face support to aesthetic and natural contouring and lighting. This is usually done by our advanced injectors using an advanced “multi-layer technique” with very little product.
  • Chin and Jawline: we add projection and definition to sharpen the lower face and improve the profile. This usually will include a more contoured appearance and camouflaging jowling.
  • Tear Troughs: this treatment softens the hollowness under the eyes that makes people look exhausted, regardless of how much sleep they’re getting
  • Temples: addressing volume loss that causes the brow area to look heavier and the upper face to look sunken. This is a frequently underestimated area that creates a more harmonious transition by beautifully capturing and reflecting light.
  • Smile Lines and Marionettes: injecting these areas softens the folds that form around the mouth as the surrounding structure loses support. This treatment harmonizes your features for a softer, more fluid appearance.

Curious what facial contouring can do for your specific concerns? Book a complimentary consultation where we can go over your concerns and build a plan specifically for you.

*Results may vary. Consultations are mandatory to determine suitability for treatment.

Can You Combine Both Lip Filler and Facial Dermal Filler?

The short answer is that lip filler and facial dermal filler aren’t mutually exclusive at all. Actually, many of our clients at Juvea Aesthetics choose a combined approach to achieve total facial harmony.

Because we focus on your unique bone structure, we understand that the lips don’t exist in isolation. For example, if we enhance the lips but the surrounding chin or jawline lacks definition, the profile may look unbalanced. By strategically using dermal filler to support the foundation of the face, like the cheeks or chin, we create a balanced canvas where your lip filler results look even more natural and sophisticated.

Our team begins every process with a thorough consultation to ensure this combined approach is right for you. Please note that results may vary based on individual anatomy and goals.

Choosing the Right Treatment for Your Goals

The honest answer is that it depends on your face, your goals, and where you’re starting from. This is exactly why every Juvea appointment begins with a thorough consultation rather than a treatment menu. The plan has to be built around your anatomy specifically.

As a general guide:

You might consider lip filler: if you want to add hydration or soft, subtle volume to your lips, address asymmetry between your upper and lower lip, or redefine your cupid’s bow. It’s also worth knowing that lip filler and facial filler aren’t mutually exclusive, so many clients do both. When we approach the face as a whole, the results look much more harmonized and seamless.

Facial dermal filler might be the right fit: if you’re noticing hollowing in your cheeks or under the eyes, you want more definition in your chin or jawline, or are looking to address the natural volume changes that occur over time. Most of our Calgary clients are surprised by how subtle the end result is. When done well, fillers support a visually refreshed version of you.

For both treatments, there are a few important considerations for suitability:

  • Clients must be over 18.
  • Treatments are not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • The best results come from having a clear sense of your goals and a commitment to a natural aesthetic.

Why Juvea Aesthetics for Lip Filler and Dermal Filler in Calgary

A lot of clinics offer filler, but the level of product knowledge and anatomical training behind each treatment decision genuinely varies. What sets Juvea apart is the clinical depth of knowledge and expertise that informs every choice. At Juvea, it’s not just how the filler we inject looks, but which product, in which layer, in which amount, and for which person.

Our Clinical Director and Level 5 Injector, Hanan Atwi (BScN, RN), has completed 9 cadaver labs and attended 26+ international fellowships and masterclasses alongside world-leading plastic and oculoplastic surgeons. She is also a national trainer for advanced aesthetic procedures. Her expertise in filler rheology (knowing exactly how each product will behave in each type of tissue) is a level of specialized knowledge that’s genuinely rare in the industry, and it’s the foundation that every treatment at Juvea is built on.

The full Juvea team is trained and mentored directly under Hanan’s supervision, so the philosophy is consistent regardless of which injector you book with.

We believe that education is key and constant in an ever-evolving industry. We don’t fall into societal trends that are short lived but rather investigate the science and research of it all. We value an anatomy-heavy education, full understanding of rheology, ingredients and technology in the beauty industry, and a respect for natural and ethnic beauty.

We know that results should always be aesthetically pleasing and never off-balance, this is what we call a holistic approach.

Our philosophy is strong yet simple: Less is more. Precision over excess. Impact without over-treatment.

Choosing between the Russian lip filler and classic lip filler techniques is one of the most frequent questions we get at Juvea Aesthetics. If you’ve been researching lip filler in Calgary, you’ve likely seen the stunning (and very different) results these two approaches can produce.

The right choice for you depends on your starting point and your desired look. In this guide, we’ll break down the nuance between the lift and the plump to help you navigate your aesthetic journey.

Russian Lips vs. Classic Filler: What’s the Difference?

The most important thing to understand is that the difference doesn’t lie in the product (both use high-quality hyaluronic acid fillers authorized by Health Canada) but rather in the way the filler is placed, which changes the silhouette completely.

Classic Lip Filler: The Soft Polish

Think of classic filler as your own lips, but on their best day. This technique focuses on adding volume evenly and horizontally to the lips.

  • The Result: Added hydration, symmetry, and a pillowy projection.
  • The Profile: It provides a naturally rounded look from the side, mimicking the way your natural lip moves.
  • Best For: This is the gold standard for clients seeking a refreshed, rejuvenated look that looks like they were born with effortless, full lips.

The Russian Technique: The Sculpted Lift

The Russian technique is designed for vertical height rather than outward volume (which can create a rounded profile). Instead, we inject the filler vertically in tiny columns starting from the base.

  • The Result: A taller upper lip, a significantly sharper cupid’s bow, and a heart-shaped aesthetic.
  • The Profile: This technique draws the tissue upward and flattens the lip against the face, resulting in a stunning frontal view with a remarkably flat side profile.
  • Best For: Those wanting a more structured, deliberate, and sculpted look. Ideally, they haven’t had lip filler before, so we have a clean canvas.

(Note: Results may vary based on individual tissue state and metabolism.)

What Is the Russian Lip Filler Technique vs. Classic Filler Technique?

When people come to us asking about Russian lip filler in Calgary, they usually have a pretty specific look in mind. And one of the first things we do is make sure that the look they have in mind is aligned with what the technique produces, because they don’t always match.

Here’s what the Russian lip filler shape actually looks like:

  • Taller upper lip: the lip grows upward, not outward and it looks more elongated than plump.
  • Sharper, more defined Cupid’s bow: the “M” shape at the centre of your upper lip becomes more pronounced.
  • Flat side profile: from the side, Russian lips sit flatter and more structured than classic filler, which gives a soft and round projection.
  • Heart-shaped appearance: the signature look of this technique, the combination of height and Cupid’s bow definition creates that heart shape at the centre.

Classic filler gives a completely different end result, adding balanced volume across both lips, and a naturally rounded look from the side. People describe the result as hydrated and refreshed: still you, but a rejuvenated version.

What else should I know about Russian Lips in Calgary?

Here’s the part that most people don’t know: not just any filler product can be used for the Russian technique. Classic lip filler uses a flexible product that moves naturally with your lips but the Russian Lip Filler technique needs a firmer product that can actually hold the vertical shape without spreading or shifting over time. In our experience, only a small handful of products are actually suited for this, and using the wrong one is one of the main reasons people end up with filler migration (more on that below).

To learn more about how we choose the right product for each client, check out our complete lip filler guide.

Behind the Syringe: How Are Russian Lips Injected?

The Russian lip filler technique is done through a series of small injections delivered vertically into the body of the lip (rather than along the border). Building height from the inside of the lip outwards. When done correctly, it will give a sculpted, more defined shape without overfilling the tissue.

At Juvea, we approach this technique conservatively, which means we never exceed one syringe (1ml) in a single sitting, and most treatments use between 0.5ml and 1ml. More is not better here: overloading the lip tissue causes trauma, and trauma causes migration. Our goal is always to give you the look you want while protecting the long-term health of your tissue.

When it comes to this technique, transparency is essential: the Russian lip technique often requires multiple treatments to achieve the desired result. If someone is promising you a dramatic transformation in one session, it’s very unlikely and there’s a risk of overloading the lips.

Russian vs. Regular Lip Filler vs. Lip Flip: Which One Do You Need?

If you’ve been searching for Russian lip filler near me, you’ve likely also seen the Lip Flip. While filler adds volume, a Lip Flip uses Botox to relax the muscles around the mouth for a subtle roll of the upper lip.

Who is a good candidate for Russian lip filler?

The best candidates are usually people who have never had lip filler before, because we have full control over placement when we’re starting fresh. Beyond that, you need to have enough tissue to support this technique, and it’s important to have realistic expectations about what your specific lip shape can achieve.

If you’ve had lip filler before, that doesn’t automatically rule you out, but in most cases the existing filler needs to be dissolved first before we’d consider the Russian approach. Trying to layer this technique on top of the previous product is one of the more high-risk ways to end up with migration.

Who is a good candidate for a lip flip?

We only recommend a lip flip for people whose upper lip essentially disappears when they smile, and a common misconception is that this is an alternative to lip filler for volume: it’s not! We don’t typically recommend a lip flip unless there’s a clear reason for it. The muscle being treated is one you use constantly throughout the day, and there are real long-term downsides to treating it more than necessary.

For everything you need to know about lip filler vs. a lip flip vs. Russian filler, our full guide has you covered.  You can also book a complimentary consultation with us and provide a treatment recommendation based on your desired outcomes.

Russian Lips Before and After

Before and after of Russian lip filler showing a flatter side profile and a more defined, lifted Cupid’s bow.

A stunning result for this technique really comes down to having a clearly lifted cupid’s bow and an upper lip that looks taller and more sculpted than before. One of the best parts of this technique is that your side profile stays flat instead of projecting forward, which keeps the look very modern and soft. The lip border stays clean, and the lower lip remains proportionate to the upper so that everything stays balanced. When done correctly, the end look is structured and defined, but still natural enough that it doesn’t feel overdone.

Classic Filler Before and After

Before and after of classic lip filler showing increased overall volume and a softer, rounded shape.

Classic lip filler tends to be exactly what most of our Calgary clients are looking for when they want to feel refreshed rather than make a drastic change. This approach focuses on creating balanced, hydrated and proportionate lips that naturally complement your facial structure. Because the volume is spread evenly across the body of the lip, the overall shape remains soft and natural while the side profile shows a gentle, subtle projection that mimics the way a natural lip moves.

Lip Filler 101: How to Prep for and Care for Your Lip Filler

Before your appointment:

In the few days leading up to your treatment, avoid alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, and supplements like fish oil and vitamin E, these all make bruising more likely. If you’re prone to cold sores, let us know ahead of time so we can sort out a prescription to prevent an outbreak around your treatment date. Come in with bare lips and a clear idea of what you’re hoping to achieve, and we’ll build a plan together.

After your appointment:

Your lips will be swollen right after your treatment: this is completely normal and expected. Swelling tends to peak the morning after your appointment and will gradually settle over the next few days. Your final result won’t be visible until about 2-3 weeks in, once everything has settled and the filler has fully integrated. Avoid pressing or massaging your lips (unless advised by your injector), and skip the gym, saunas, and alcohol for the first 24 hours.

Investment: How Much Does Lip Filler Cost at Juvea Aesthetics?

Pricing for lip filler in Calgary at Juvea is based on the amount of product used and which injector is performing your treatment:

  • Mini Lip (0.5ml) – starting from $350
  • Full Lip (1ml) – starting from $550
  • Lip Correction / Dissolve – starting from $250

At Juvea, the Russian technique is only performed by our Level 4 and Level 5 injectors. Given the complexity of this technique and the importance of getting both the product selection and placement exactly right, the skill of the person performing it directly impacts your result and your safety.

Since the Russian technique usually takes more than one session to complete, the overall investment is something worth planning for. Financing options are available at Juvea, just ask our team for details when you book your appointment.

What is Filler Migration and How Do We Avoid It?

Migration is what happens when lip filler moves outside the natural lip line, creating that blurred or puffy appearance above the lip border that most people don’t want. It’s one of the most common issues we see and correct at Juvea, and it’s almost always avoidable.

With the Russian technique specifically, migration happens most often when too much product is used at once, the wrong filler is chosen for the approach, or the treatment is performed on someone whose lips weren’t suited for it. Lips are unique and can only handle so much, and when they’re pushed past that point, the tissue responds by moving the filler away from where it was placed.

Our approach at Juvea keeps migration risk low by being genuinely conservative. We use one syringe maximum per session, specific products only, and are honest and transparent with clients who have lips that aren’t suitable for this technique. Prevention is always better than correction.

If you’ve had Calgary lip filler done elsewhere and you’re not happy with your results, or you’re just ready to start your own journey with us at Juvea, please book a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals! We can take a close look at your current shape, answer any questions you have about our techniques, and work together to build a treatment plan that feels exactly right for you.

Ready to Find Your Perfect Pout?

Deciding between the Russian lip filler technique and classic lip filler in Calgary truly comes down to whether you’re looking for architectural height in your lips, or natural volume for fuller lips. Above all, a great result will depend on whether you’re the right candidate for this technique as well as a skilled injector. At Juvea, we believe the most successful result is the one that works with your unique facial structure and enhances what you already have. During a consultation, we’ll assess what your lip tissue can safely support before recommending an approach, listen to your goals, and create a custom plan that’s built entirely around you.

In accordance with Health Canada regulations, please note that hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are authorized medical devices for the restoration of volume. All aesthetic injectable treatments carry risks, including swelling, bruising, or more serious complications. These treatments are not “permanent” and results are not “100% guaranteed.” Results may vary from patient to patient. Please consult with our medical team to determine if these treatments are right for you.

What Are Lip Fillers? Dermal Fillers for Lip Enhancement

Lip fillers are injectable treatments using hyaluronic acid (also known as HA), a substance that occurs naturally in the body to add volume, definition and hydration to your lips. What hyaluronic acid does is bind water in your lip tissue to create that soft, natural fullness.

At Juvea Aesthetics, we only use premium hyaluronic acid-based filler products that are Health Canada approved. This includes brands from the Teoxane and Belotero families (two of the most internationally researched filler brands available) as well as Revanesse® and Restylane®, which are highly sought-after options for lip filler in Calgary.

What Makes These Products Different?

It’s important to know that not all fillers are created equal. At Juvea, filler selection is based on filler rheology (the science behind how a product behaves within the tissue). Some fillers are too stiff for lips, and that causes an unnatural look or feel. Others integrate so seamlessly with the tissue that it delivers the undetectable results Juvea is known for.

Teoxane and Belotero products are known for their cross-linkage technology that closely mimics the body’s own skin structure, making them among the most tissue-compatible lip injections in Calgary as well as internationally.

But here’s what matters most: you could use the best product on the market and still get a result that looks overdone or unnatural if it’s in the wrong hands. Product choice and injector expertise work together, one without the other isn’t enough.

To choose the right paint for your Mona Lisa, we also consider your current tissue state, lip anatomy, and if you’ve had any filler treatments in the past. Book your complimentary consultation at Juvea Aesthetics in Calgary and we’ll guide you through the options.

The Benefits of Lip Filler: Achieving Your Lip Enhancement Goals

At Juvea Aesthetics, we don’t believe in changing your features, we believe in highlighting them. Getting a skilled lip enhancement in Calgary can address a variety of aesthetic concerns while maintaining the integrity of your natural look.

Here’s what a lip filler treatment can address:

  • Add volume: Restore fullness to lips or provide a subtle boost in hydration.
  • Correct asymmetry: Balance the proportions between the upper and lower lip or the left and right sides.
  • Define the Cupid’s Bow: Redefine the lip border and the prominent “M” shape for a crisp appearance.
  • Restore volume lost through aging: Replenish the natural hyaluronic acid that diminishes over time, softening fine lines around the mouth.
  • Improve texture and hydration: Use HA’s water-binding properties to create a smooth, effortless finish.
  • Enhance profile and projection: Create a balanced side profile that harmonizes with your chin and nose.
  • Turn frowns around: Add subtle volume to downward-turned lips for a more refreshed, positive expression.

One of the most appreciated results of getting a lip filler treatment in Calgary is how subtle the end-result is. You’ll look more refreshed, balanced and like a refreshed version of yourself, but only when the treatment is done correctly. Careful product selection, the right technique, and a strong understanding of the transition areas all need to be considered for the perfect result.

Since every set of lips has a different starting point, the best way to determine your specific needs is through a complimentary consultation where a plan is created together.

*Note: these results are immediately post-treatment, swelling is present. Final results settle within 2 weeks.

Types of Lip Fillers Used in Calgary

When you’re searching for lip fillers in Calgary, you’ll come across several brand names like Juvederm®, Restylane®, Revanesse®, Teoxane®, Belotero®. Here’s how to understand them:

All of the products used for lip injections in Calgary at Juvea are hyaluronic acid-based. HA fillers provide immediate results and integrate naturally with the tissue over 2-3 weeks. Because HA fillers are a naturally recurring component in the body, they offer a soft and natural fullness that is both safe and effective for the delicate lip area.

Teoxane & Belotero – Juvea’s Primary Lip Filler Brands
These are two of our most used products for lip treatments. We lean into these lines for their advanced cross-linkage technology, which allows the filler to integrate closely with existing lip tissue. The end result mimics your lip’s natural structure, so the filler is undetectable.

Revanesse & Restylane – Other Expert Options available at Juvea Aesthetics
We also carry Revanesse® and Restylane®, which are some of the most requested filler brands at Juvea. Depending on your specific goals, whether you need more structural support, defined borders, or have a specific tissue anatomy, your injector may recommend one of these as the ideal product for your treatment.

How Does Juvea Choose Which Filler to Use?

Product selection at Juvea depends on: your goals (subtle hydration vs. defined volume), your current lip tissue and anatomy, any previous filler treatments, and the specific technique being used. All will be determined during your consultation.

Lip Filler Before and After: What to Expect During Your Treatment

Step 1: Consultation

Every appointment at Juvea begins with a thorough consultation, even if you have already booked your treatment. Your injector will ask about your goals while evaluating your lip structure and how it balances with your facial features.

We’ll assess your symmetry and determine the right product and volume necessary for you. If you have booked a full syringe but our assessment shows you only need a mini lip (0.5ml), your treatment will be adjusted.

Step 2: Recommendations & Numbing

Based on our assessment and your desired outcome, we’ll educate you on the best way to approach treatment, offering advice and suggestions on the best course of action. A topical numbing cream is applied to the lips, and almost all the dermal fillers in Calgary we use contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) within the formula to further minimize discomfort (if you have a known lidocaine allergy, non-lidocaine fillers are available). We also use ice throughout the treatment to manage any sensitivity and minimize swelling.

Step 3: Treatment

The actual treatment process at Juvea is designed to be as seamless and comfortable as possible, typically taking about 45 minutes from consultation to completion. Juvea’s injectors are dedicated to a methodical approach, ensuring the filler integrates perfectly with your natural tissue.

Step 4: Immediate Results

You’ll see a difference right away! Your lips will be slightly swollen immediately after treatment, but this is completely normal. Full results (with swelling resolved and the filler integrated into the tissue) are typically visible at the 2-3 week mark.

How Long Does Lip Filler Last? Maintenance and Longevity Guide

For most clients, lip filler at Juvea can last anywhere between 6-18 months. There is a common misconception that lips metabolize filler faster because of eating, talking, or using a straw, but those aren’t the main factors behind longevity. The real reason lip filler may dissolve more quickly than other areas is simply because the product used for the lips is much softer and more pliable to suit the delicate movements of that area.

Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Factors: What Affects Your Results?

At Juvea, we prioritize patient teaching regarding aesthetic goals and treatment plans. There are some factors that can influence how long your dermal fillers in Calgary last, and they’re separated into two distinct categories:

  • Intrinsic Factors (the uncontrollable): These are internal elements we cannot control, such as your age, genetics, your individual metabolic rate, etc. Everyone metabolizes products differently, which is why two people can receive the same treatment but see different durations of volume.
  • Extrinsic Factors (the controllable): These are external elements that we can sometimes control or manipulate to work to our benefit. This includes managing exposure to sun damage and pollution, both of which can impact the health of your skin and the preservation of your results.

The Role of Volume in Longevity

The main thing that affects longevity is the amount of product used. We often see that when someone tries to be too conservative and compromises too much on the amount of filler, they inadvertently compromise the longevity of the product. Using the correct amount of volume for your specific anatomy helps ensure the filler can last longer.

Your Maintenance Schedule at Juvea

We conduct a fresh assessment of each client at every appointment to determine if maintenance is required. Because HA filler doesn’t simply expire but gradually dissolves over time, most clients return for a touch-up when they notice the volume beginning to soften. Your injector will include specific maintenance recommendations as part of your personal treatment plan to ensure your lip enhancement in Calgary always looks refreshed.

How Much Does Lip Filler Cost in Calgary?

Lip filler pricing at Juvea Aesthetics is based on two things: the amount of product used and the injector level performing the treatment.

Juvea Lip Filler Pricing

  • Mini Lip (½ syringe) – starting from $350
  • Full Lip (1 syringe) – starting from $550
  • Lip Correction or Dissolver (Hyaluronidase) – starting from $250

What Impacts the Price?
  • Injector level (Level 2, Level 4, or Level 5 Expert)
  • Volume of product used

Why Does Injector Level Affect Cost?

Injector levels at Juvea affect the cost because they are a direct reflection of years of specialized experience. A Junior Injector (Level 2) brings up to 3 years of experience, while an Advanced Injector (Level 4) has over 5 years in the field. Our Expert Level 5 injector, Hanan, provides a level of mastery built over 10+ years of injecting, including 9 cadaver labs and over 26 international fellowships and conferences.

We also offer an Intern Injector (Level 1) option, where a new injector works under the direct guidance of our Level 5 expert. For complex cases, first-time clients, or those seeking the most refined result, booking with a more senior injector is an intentional investment in your aesthetic outcome.

During our consult + treatment appointments, we can assess your natural lip symmetry and tissue elasticity to determine the best technique. Book a consultation to get started.

Professional Lip Filler Correction and Managing Migration in Calgary

Not all lip filler journeys start from scratch. If you’ve had a previous lip filler treatment elsewhere that you’re not satisfied with – whether that’s migration, overfilling, asymmetry, or lumps, Juvea Aesthetics specializes in corrective lip treatments in Calgary. We understand the frustration of a result that doesn’t feel like you, and our goal is to restore balance and confidence through clinical expertise and a conservative, anatomy-first approach.

What Is Lip Filler Migration?

This happens when filler moves outside the natural lip border, creating a blurred appearance or the duck lip look above the lip line. Migration is usually caused by too much product being placed at once, the wrong product being chosen for the delicate lip tissue, poor injection technique, or treatment happening too frequently.

What Can Be Corrected?

We address a wide range of concerns through filler correction! If you are searching for how to fix bad lip filler, we’re here to help.

  • Asymmetry (uneven lip size or shape)
  • Migration (filler above or around the lip border)
  • Overfilling (disproportionate volume)
  • Lumps or uneven texture

How Juvea Approaches Correction

The correction process at Juvea begins with a thorough assessment of the existing product and tissue health of your lips. We’ll then use hyaluronidase (a naturally occurring enzyme) to precisely dissolve unwanted filler, so we can start with a blank canvas. Filler can then be reintroduced using the right product and technique to achieve a beautiful result.

We always schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure optimal healing and that your final lip enhancement in Calgary meets our high standards, and ultimately your desired result.

Prevention at Juvea

The best correction is the one you never need. We are highly selective on the filler products we use for the lips, using only the appropriate rheology for the area, and we never exceed one syringe per sitting. Taking this conservative approach significantly reduces any risk of migration from the beginning.

How Much Lip Filler Do You Need? (0.5ml vs. 1ml)

This is one of the most common questions clients ask before booking, and it can only be answered when we assess your lips during the consultation. If you’re looking for lip injections in Calgary, consultations are completely complimentary and included at the beginning of your appointment.

How Juvea Approaches Your Treatment

At Juvea, if you book for a full syringe and we determine that you only need 1/2 syringe, we change that to a mini lip. Most clients don’t know exactly how much they need, and this decision is heavily dependent on the consultation portion of your lip filler appointment. We prioritize transparency, so if your injector sees that a smaller amount is better for your tissue, your appointment and pricing are adjusted on the spot.

General Guidelines

  • 0.5ml (Mini Lip): Suited for first-time clients, those wanting subtle hydration and definition, or clients whose lips have good volume but want refinement. In some cases, clients with very limited tissue capacity can only tolerate 0.5ml safely.
  • 1ml (Full Lip): Better suited for clients with significant hollowness, wanting more noticeable volume, or who have the tissue support to handle more product. Even so, we rarely treat lips with a full syringe in a single sitting.

We use personalized consultations to evaluate your lip proportions and bone structure, ensuring we choose a product that integrates perfectly with your features.

Are Lip Fillers Safe? Side Effects to Know

Yes! Hyaluronic acid fillers are Health Canada-approved and totally safe when you’re in the right hands. All of Juvea’s injectors are Registered Nurses, and we only use Health Canada-approved products.

Common Side Effects (Normal & Temporary)

It is completely normal to see a few temporary side effects right after your appointment. Don’t worry if you notice:

  • Swelling: This is very common, particularly in the delicate lip area.
  • Bruising: Possible, especially around the edges of your lips.
  • Tender spots: Expected at the injection sites immediately following treatment
  • Early Asymmetry: Often noticed in the first few days as swelling settles unevenly.

Rare Considerations: While serious events are rare, they are taken incredibly seriously at Juvea. Our team conducts proactive post-treatment follow-ups at two days and two weeks to monitor your results and ensure your recovery is on track. We encourage all clients to report any unexpected symptoms immediately so we can provide professional guidance.

A Note on Safety Philosophy at Juvea

Safety is the foundation of everything at Juvea Aesthetics. Hanan has completed 9 cadaver labs and trained alongside some of the world’s leading anatomists and oculoplastic surgeons, precisely because understanding anatomy is what keeps clients safe. Filler in the lip area requires intimate knowledge of vascular anatomy.

Lip Filler Recovery & Swelling Timeline

Day of Treatment
Your lips will feel a bit tender and look slightly swollen immediately after. This is totally normal! We recommend icing the area gently and avoiding any pressing or massaging unless your injector specifically tells you to.

Day 1-2
Swelling peaks the morning after your appointment. Try to avoid heavy workouts, saunas, hot yoga, or alcohol for the first 24 hours.

Days 3-5
Swelling begins to reduce! If any bruising happens, it typically resolves within 5–10 days. Most clients feel comfortable returning to normal activities within 24 hours.

Weeks 2-3
Full results are visible! The filler has integrated with the tissue and the lips look and feel natural.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Avoid blood thinners, alcohol, and high-dose vitamins for 24-48 hours post-treatment.
  • Do not massage the lips unless instructed.
  • Avoid excessive heat and strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Ice gently if needed, but gently.
  • Contact us immediately if you experience unusual pain, discolouration, or anything that feels off.

Pre-Treatment Care

  • Avoid alcohol, coffee, and bruising-risk supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, high-dose vitamin C) for several days prior.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen or Aspirin if possible.
  • Let us know about any cold sore history so we can prescribe a preventive treatment.

Lip Filler vs. Lip Flip: Which Calgary Treatment is Right for You?

The lip filler vs. lip flip comparison is a recurring conversation happening on social media, and many people are heavily misinformed on the difference between the two.

What Is a Lip Flip?
A lip flip uses a small amount of Botox or Dysport injected into the orbicularis oris muscle (the circular muscle around the mouth), causing the upper lip to relax slightly and roll outward, giving the appearance of a fuller upper lip.

When Is a Lip Flip Recommended?
We only recommend lip flips for clients whose upper lip disappears when they smile. It’s not an alternative to lip filler if you want to add volume or definition to your lips, as lip flip and lip filler are two different treatments addressing two different concerns.

Important Cautions Around Lip Flip
The muscle botox is injected into for a lip flip (the orbicularis oris muscle) is a heavily used muscle for talking, eating, chewing, drinking from a straw and more. There are long-term consequences for doing frequent and repeated lip treatments when its not required.

Can They Be Combined?
Very rarely do we need to do a lip flip post-lip filler treatment. However, it’s only able to be determined after the lip filler treatment is completed enough times that it corrects the version of the lip on its own. If appropriate, this will be assessed at your next appointment.

If you’re curious about how your smile might respond to either treatment, book a complimentary consultation to discuss which approach aligns with your goals!

Know Before You Go: A Lip Flip is not suitable for everyone and will not provide a lift or volume associated with lip fillers. Because results vary based on the individual, a consultation is required to ensure this treatment aligns with your specific goals.

Russian Lip Filler vs. Classic Technique: What You Need to Know

What Is the Russian Lip Technique?
Your lips will feel a bit tender and look slightly swollen immediately after. This is totally normal! We recommend icing the area gently and avoiding any pressing or massaging unless your injector specifically tells you to.

Product Selection is Essential for This Technique
This technique cannot be done with all lip filler products. In our professional opinion, there are really only three specific products that can be used to do this successfully. If the treatment is done too aggressively, with a heavy hand, or with the wrong product, patients will more often than not get immediate migration 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment. This happens because the lip tissue cannot handle that type of volume and trauma, causing the tissue to move the filler up and around the mouth.

Does Juvea Offer Russian Lip Technique?
Yes, but selectively! At Juvea Aesthetics, we only perform this technique when it is truly required and only when the patient is a proper candidate. This selectivity is how we minimize the risk of migration. We are very conservative with the Russian technique and very selective with the product type we use.

Who Is a Good Candidate?
Candidates best suited for this technique typically include:

  • First-time clients: Patients who have never had lip filler done before.
  • Realistic Expectations: Those who understand the anatomical limitations of their own lip structure.
  • Tissue Support: Patients who have the specific tissue strength to handle this vertical technique.

Volume Limits
We never do more than one syringe in one sitting in this particular area, and this technique typically requires anywhere from 0.5ml to 1ml to get the desired look. Our goal is to give you that sculpted look without compromising your tissue health or risk migration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Filler in Calgary

Will I bruise and swell?

Mild swelling is very common, especially in the lips. Some may experience slight bruising. Swelling typically peaks the morning after your appointment and settles over the following few days. If bruising occurs, it resolves within 5-10 days. Juvea uses techniques throughout the treatment to minimize both. You can ice the area as needed, and avoid massaging unless specified by your injector.

You’ll see immediate improvement, but final results are visible once the swelling is fully settled, and the filler has integrated into the tissue, which is at the 2-3 week mark. This is when the filler looks more natural to the tissue.

Everyone’s different, and that’s the honest answer. How long your lip filler lasts depends on your individual metabolism, the product used, and how much was placed.

Most people start to notice the fullness softening somewhere in that 6-18 month window for lips, but your injector will give you a realistic sense of timing at your follow-up appointment. Come back when it feels like you’ve lost something. We’ll reassess and go from there.

Mild swelling and tenderness are completely normal in the first few days. Contact us immediately if you are experiencing increased pain, unusual skin, colour changes, severe swelling, or any bruising that just doesn’t feel right. We’ll check in with you 2-3 days after your procedure, and also two weeks after your treatment to ensure that results have settled.

No! When performed correctly with an aesthetic eye and an in-depth understanding of anatomy and filler radiology, dermal fillers are designed to enhance your appearance. An overfilled look is the result of excessive product, poor technique, poor filler choice, or treatments done too frequently.

Many clients love their results so much that they choose to maintain them, but you are never stuck with filler once you start. An ethical injector will always be honest with you and let you know when it’s better to opt out of a maintenance treatment to preserve your natural look.

Yes. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that dissolves HA filler quickly and precisely. Juvea offers this as a standalone correction service for clients who have had filler done elsewhere or who wish to reverse their results.

No. Lip filler, along with all dermal filler treatments, are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
