The Best Routine for Home Facials in Calgary

Facials are an excellent beauty method to turn to for a moment of simultaneous indulgence and skin revitalization. While you may believe effective facials in Calgary require to be done only by an advanced medical aesthetician, you have to have a solid home care regimen and can create your own facial routine that will leave your skin looking smooth, supple, and refreshed while inducing the relaxing sensation to relieve worry and stress.

Find out the best home facials tips you can adopt today that will help you improve your skin in many ways and keep you feeling refreshed and relaxed from the comforts of your own home.

Cleanse

Before you begin to slather on skin-reforming products for your facial procedure, you will want to cleanse your skin to start with a clean slate. If you already have makeup on your face, you’ll want to thoroughly remove it with an oil or lotion-based cleanser for apt removal. Cleansing will also remove a natural build-up of dirt that accumulates on your skin throughout the day. Once you have used an oil or lotion-based cleanser on your face, wipe it off with a warm cloth, and you can utilize gel and cream-based cleansers to massage your face for further cleansing. Our favorites are the Purifying gel cleanser, the SensiCalm Cleanser and the HydraBoost Cleanser from Alumier MD sold at Juvea Aesthetics.

Exfoliate

After you have cleansed your face, you can begin to exfoliate your skin, which will work to remove the dead skin from the surface of your skin. Exfoliating your skin before applying any other product will ensure that everything else you use will be properly absorbed. There are two types of exfoliators that are typically used, scrubs and chemical exfoliating products. Exfoliating can be chemical like medical grade retinols or mechanical like the Lotus Scrub or MicroDerm polish from Alumier MD. We also love the slow release, microencapsulated retinols found at Juvea Aesthetics.

Mask

Masks are the step that follows the application of an exfoliator. For that extra skin love self-care night, a mask should be selected to hydrate skin. These mask types can include gel, cream, and sheets and serve different purposes. Our favourites are the Eye Rescue Pads that hydrate and smooth the under eye and the famous Aqua Infusion Mask both from Alumier MD.

Serum

This step is essential for your skincare concerns and type! A serum can be corrective or anti-aging. At Juvea Aesthetics, we like to call these, base serums and your treatment serums. Serums treat skin care concerns, including acne, dry skin or oily skin. These serums often have variating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen factors, vitamins A, B, C, and D or retinol for anti-aging measures. At Juvea Aesthetics, we customize your skin care regimen to fit your skincare goals and needs.

At Home Facials

Moisturize

Once your serums have soaked into your skin, apply some of your skin’s favourite moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated and feeling smooth. In the medical grade world, there are a ton of different kinds of moisturizers, so you will be sure to find one just right for your skin type and concerns. At Juvea Aesthetics, we don’t believe our Calgary patients should be on one moisturizer year-round. Our weather changes so drastically, and very often, treat your skin accordingly.

Conclusion

Follow the aforementioned steps to create your own effective facial routine within your home and attain the best results for smooth and healthy skin. Contact us for your complimentary skin care consultation. We believe in safe, sulfate-free, phthalate-free medical-grade skin care products.

What is microneedling in Calgary?

Microneedling is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that involves minuscule needles that penetrate the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. This specific treatment is a viable alternative to other, more expensive and intensive cosmetic procedures that provide similar results. Much like many cosmetic procedures, both surgical and not, microneedling in Calgary is meant to enhance the skin in several ways, culminating in clearer and smoother skin. This treatment has been steadily growing in popularity over the years because of its price accessibility and its effectiveness in correcting a multitude of issues.

Discover what microneedling is meant to do for your skin, how it works, the advantages of the treatment, and other information pertaining to this cosmetic procedure.

What is microneedling meant to do?

As aforementioned, microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that consists of small and sterile needles pricking small holes in the top layer of skin. These minimally invasive controlled penetrations to the skin will stimulate collagen and elastin production, and as the skin heals from these minor punctures, it causes cellular rejuvenation; thus, scarring and dark spots can be diminished. After getting microneedling treatment, you will notice your skin will be more youthful and clear, similar to the results of a chemical peel and still with a short social downtime.

Microneedling

How does it work?

The treatment of microneedling is meant to encourage and promote collagen and elastin production, where the punctures in the skin administered during the treatment will eventually heal and, during the healing process (cellular rejuvenation), will produce new collagen tissue. This extensive new tissue that can be produced over the entire treated area will be more even in texture and tone, and the skin will also be much firmer. With further guidance from a cosmetic specialist, microneedling can be optimally paired with additional serums and other treatments that will completely revitalize the skin for a long period.

Benefits

There are many different benefits to receiving a microneedling treatment, including minimal invasiveness and minor pain experienced, its ability to rejuvenate and plump skin, and the procedure having very few side effects and requiring little to no downtime. This procedure can be tailored for those with a busy schedule and who want a more accessible skincare treatment that procures similar results as other, more intensive treatments.

Target areas

With microneedling, you can correct uneven skin tone and texture, reduce enlarged pores, diminish dark spots and hyperpigmentation, reduce the number of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the intensity of scars and acne, assist those with alopecia, reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and enhance skin elasticity. These are only some problem areas and skin corrections that microneedling can help with. This is not a face-only treatment. We treat a lot of scarring and marks on the body with our microneedling device.

Potential side effects

Similar to most cosmetic procedures currently available, you should expect some side effects from microneedling treatment. Before the procedure, you should speak with the professional administering the microneedling, so you can comprehend the potential side effects and ensure that your safety is a priority. With microneedling, at most, you will experience skin irritation and redness in the days following the treatment. If you experience excessive peeling, bleeding, or an infection, you should contact a healthcare professional. Microneedling might not be suitable for your skin if you have psoriasis or eczema, open wounds and acne, or a substantial amount of skin scars.

How many Belkyra in Calgary treatments will I need?

When you’re unhappy with your double chin, it may seem like nothing can be done to remove it. A stubborn pocket of fat can be a profound challenge to expel from your body, but it’s not entirely impossible. With new cosmetic technological developments cropping up each year, there are advanced treatments to modify different areas of the body–including the double chin. Belkyra in Calgary is an effective procedure with a prompt injection meant to reduce the excess skin under your chin. This minimally invasive treatment serves as a viable alternative to a surgical procedure that reduces excess fat. Although the concept of Belkyra is quite straightforward, questions are bound to surface for those who are interested in receiving the treatment, such as how many treatments are actually needed per patient.

Ascertain all the information you’ll want to know about Belkyra and how many treatments you’ll ultimately need.

What is Belkyra, and how does it work?

Belkyra, also known as Kybella, is a cosmetic treatment consisting of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which destroys the number of fat cells under the chin. This treatment is non-invasive, with only an injection being placed in the treated area, and only minimal discomfort will be temporarily felt. Because Belkyra treatment is sought after for its results and high satisfaction rate among patients who received it, it has become a trendy cosmetic procedure.

Who can receive Belkyra?

Anyone who is over the age of 18 and has excess fat under their chin is able to receive Belkyra. However, pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding should refrain from receiving Belkyra as the effects the injection can have is unknown, mainly due to a lack of research. If you have any underlying conditions that cause significant swelling or difficulty swallowing, Belkyra might not be a safe treatment for you. Discuss Belkyra with your primary healthcare provider for the safest course of action.

Belkrya Treatments

Procedure and results

The Belkyra procedure will begin with a trained cosmetic injector icing the area that will be injected to quell any discomfort. The length of the injections shouldn’t take up to more than 45 minutes, and the downtime is manageable. Results of the procedure will become visible between four and six weeks after the treatment, and slight bruising around your under chin area should be expected, but it won’t be severe. After these fat cells are expelled from under your chin, and results become explicit, maintaining a healthy lifestyle will ensure that the excess fat will not return.

How many treatments are needed?

Although it depends on the individual who is receiving the Belkyra injections, the number of treatments required usually amounts to anywhere from one to four sessions per person. These sessions have to be dolled out a month after the other. To find out how many sessions you’ll require, you should meet with a trained advanced injector who will be able to determine the number of treatments and injections you will need to successfully and safely remove excess fat.

The beauty behind cosmetic treatments is seeing someone’s self-esteem bloom right before your eyes.

Fear-mongering tales of botched procedures leave many worried about invasive procedures and poor results.

Nowadays, new cosmetic treatments like mesotherapy cater to those who seek non-surgical and non-invasive techniques to get the cosmetic results they want.

The Fundamentals of Mesotherapy

What is Mesotherapy?

Over the years, mesotherapy in Calgary has become popular for its non-surgical approach to cosmetic treatment.

Mesotherapy lies in correcting issues like poor circulation and inflammation from skin damage or superficial fatty layers.

It utilizes multiple microinjections into the middle layer of your skin, penetrating only 1 to 4 millimeters into the skin along with a local anesthetic. Hence, its reputation as a fairly painless procedure!

What’s inside these injections varies depending on your treatment.

Solutions may include:

  •  Pharmaceutical medicines – vasodilators and antibiotics
  • Hormones – calcitonin and thyroxine
  • Enzymes – collagenase and hyaluronidase
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Plant extracts

Before a procedure, knowing what type of solutions can help bring up questions to your medi spa about what they do and their effects. This can help avoid the exacerbation of current conditions while ensuring you get the best results.

Skin Booster

What can Mesotherapy Treat?

Based on its technique, it can treat various cosmetic issues. Many you wouldn’t expect!

Mesotherapy can treat the following:

  • Fat reduction from your chin, neck, stomach, thighs, buttocks, hips, legs, arms, and face.
  • Minimizes cellulite
  • Fades away wrinkles and lines
  • Tightens loose skin
  • Recontours the body
  • Brighten pigmented skin
  • Treats hair loss such as alopecia

What to Expect from Mesotherapy

Any Preparation Needed?

Naturally, you will meet with your medical practitioner before the actual procedure.

A skilled practitioner will want to get an in-depth understanding of your expectations, questions, and concerns.

They endeavor to avoid any side effects such as:

  •  nausea
  • pain
  • sensitivity
  • swelling
  • itching
  • redness
  • bruising
  • bumps from the injection site
  • dark skin patches
  • rashes
  • infection
  • scars

Avoid aspirin or any other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a week before your procedure. Pain relievers can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising during mesotherapy.

What About Aftercare?

Afterward, you can leave your appointment and continue with your day. However, some might need to take a day off because of swelling and pain from injection sites.

Plus, you will most likely be going in for more sessions to get your desired results from mesotherapy. Depending on progress and the nature of your treatment, you may need to return another 3 to 15 times. In initial cases, you would get injections for 7 to 10 days.

Sessions can get reduced to once every two weeks or once a month from improving skin treatments.

Mesotherapy is far from scary, especially when you know what it entails. Enjoy what mesotherapy has to offer – check it out for yourself!

Botox and fillers are two of the most popular injectable cosmetics treatments for clients booking procedures at a medi spa in Calgary. Both procedures produce similar benefits that make you feel beautiful and look natural, and many people often use the terms interchangeably. However, when you look at the details of each, there are significant differences between the two treatments. Juvea Aesthetics is here to explain.

Medi Spa Calgary Botox

Let’s start with botox.

How Botox Works

Botox is an injectable treatment made from a highly purified protein called clostridium botulinum, a neuromodulator. Once the neuromodulator is injected, it blocks nerve signals in the muscle. This prevents the muscle from moving, reducing existing wrinkles and preventing unwanted wrinkles and lines from popping up in the future. Botox is great because you get immediate results with minimal downtime after the procedure and can last up to 4-6 months.

What Does Botox Treat?

Botox is extremely useful for treating various problem areas, regardless of age (as long as you’re 18 years old or older), ethnicity, bone structure or personal preferences. Below is a list of reasons Juvea Aesthetics will perform Botox treatment:

  • Forehead Wrinkles
  • Frown Lines
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Eyebrow Lift
  • Bunny Lines
  • A Gummy Smile
  • DAO (Depressor Anguli Oris)
  • Lip Flip
  • Chin
  • Neck Lift
  • Headache & Migraine Relief
  • TMJ Pain Relief
  • Teeth Clenching
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Muscle Stiffness

Medi Spa Calgary Fillers

How Fillers Work

On the other hand, when you get dermal fillers from the best medi spa in Calgary, you won’t be altering muscle behaviour with neuromodulators. Fillers are made with a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid. As the name would suggest, dermal fillers are injected to literally fill (hence filler) the area beneath the skin (hence dermal) to add volume and fullness, enhancing your natural beauty. Fillers last longer than Botox, keeping your skin rejuvenated for as long as 6 to 18 months.

What Do Fillers Treat?

Unlike Botox, dermal fillers are only used in the facial area, and are more limited to aesthetic purposes. Not all dermal filler procedures are identical, as Juvea Aesthetics will take into consideration your facial shape and ethnic beauty to give you the outcomes you deserve. Dermal fillers are often used for the following reasons:

  • Cheek Contouring
  • Jawline Sculpting
  • Tear Troughs
  • Nasolabial Fold & Smile Lines
  • Marionette Lines
  • Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
  • 8-Point Face Lift
  • Chin
  • Lips
  • Temples

Lip fillers can add definition, volume and balance to your lips while enhancing the equilibrium of your facial features and symmetry.

As lip injections are made with hyaluronic acid – a natural substance found in the body, the same main ingredient as dermal fillers – these injectables enhance your natural features while ensuring you have no adverse reactions to the treatment. Results can last several months, depending on the number of injections required.

However, sometimes the results do not come out as expected. There have been numerous situations where lip fillers may result in less-than-ideal outcomes.

Why does it happen? What are the signs it’s gone wrong? And, most importantly, how do you fix botched lip fillers? Juvea Aesthetics has the key details for you in this all-important article.

Why Do Lip Injections Go Wrong?

There are many reasons why lip injections can go wrong.

Most commonly, it is due to incorrect injection technique, inappropriate product selection, applying too much filler, and poor aftercare.

Perhaps the ultimate red flag is when patients have had fake hyaluronic acid fillers or fillers not recognized and approved by Health Canada, administered to them. This can result in botched results and potentially harmful health issues. If you suspect red flags with the service or injector, such as overselling expectations or not being ethical in practice, you should avoid them.

Ultimately, these situations usually occur when receiving treatment from an unqualified and non-certified “professional” that has not received the required medical training to administer lip injections safely. That’s why it is imperative that if you wish to get lip injections, you do so from a trusted expert who has medical experience and training to deliver such services – like Juvea Aesthetics

The Signs of Terrible Lip Injections

While there are side effects from the treatment, such as redness and bruising, there are very distinct signs that the treatment has gone wrong. Here are some of the signs that you should be on the lookout for:

Bumpy Lips: If small hard lumps and bumps do not subside within a few days, there is a chance that there might be an issue. Bumps and lumps occur when due to overfilling or injecting in uneven areas. It could also occur due to product selection.

Unevenness: Do you notice that your lips are uneven, unbalanced and not consistent? This is known as “asymmetrical fullness” and occurs when the lip filler is injected poorly in the treatment areas.

Dermatillomania skin picking. Woman has bad habit to pick her lips. Harmful addiction based on anxiety stress and dry lips. Excoriation disorder. Sick cracked damaged tissue.

Overfilled Lips: Commonly known as duck lips, this occurs when there is excess filler across the lips, resulting in them protruding – like a duck’s beak. In many situations, overfilled lips can become stiff, making them difficult to amend.

Necrosis: Essentially known as ‘tissue death’, this is a serious complication that requires medical treatment. This occurs when the blood vessels are blocked either directly or indirectly blocked by the filler. Signs of this include:

  • Severe pain
  • Blanching of the skin and white spots
  • Mottled skin
  • Blue, black or purple discolouration
  • Blisters and skin shedding
  • Coolness (as there is no blood in the lips)

Necrosis is extremely rare but can happen if incorrect products are used or are poorly administered by an untrained professional. Seek immediate medical advice or contact our medi spas in Calgary or Edmonton for assistance.

How To Fix Botched Lip Fillers

So, how do you repair botched lip injections? Well, there are a few steps to take, but in the hands of a certified and trusted injector (have we mentioned how great we are?), it shouldn’t be a concern.

The main aim of this process is to dissolve the current filler before conducting a refill treatment. While some patients might desire to have more filler to help repair their botched results, it tends to end up with more problems in the future.

Here is how we approach your botched lips:

  1. We will have a consultation to assess your facial structure and symmetry and align it with your personal goals. This way, we ensure that we can deliver perfect results for you.
  2. We dissolve the filler in your lips by using hyaluronidase, which is a soluble protein enzyme. This enzyme destroys the bonds holding the hyaluronic acid in the lips. The effect of hyaluronidase begins right away but will take two full weeks for results (hence step 2 below). We have our own personal protocol for administering hyaluronidase, which has proven to be very effective.
  3. We now have to wait a full two weeks to ensure that the hyaluronidase has effectively eliminated all the filler.
  4. Finally, we administer a refill of filler. It’s here that injection technique is crucial to ensure you get your desired results. Before you know it, you’ll have the lips you’ve always wanted.

If you suspect any problems with your lip injections, you should speak to our injectors immediately. We can ensure you get beautiful lips with our service and care.
